The East Shore's 7th Annual "Hike for Hospice" will take place in Riondel on May 4th . Registration will begin at 9:30 AM and the Hike will start at 10:00 at the Riondal Community Centre. Lunch will be served in the Senior's Room. Yoan Benoit of Mojo's will cater the event and the Applesauce Fiddlers will provide entertainment. A prize will be awarded to the person who gathers the most pledges. Please contact East Shore Hospice at 227-9006 ext. 29 for further details.

In honour of Hospice/Palliative Care week, Nelson & Area will host the 2nd Annual "Living With Our Dying"community education event on Wed. May 7 at the Oxygen Arts Centre, 7-9PM. This year's topic "Dealing with the Little Deaths of Everyday Life" will be discussed by Jim Northcote, Shayla Wright, Duncan Grady and Rivkah Moore with a Q&A period to follow. Special guests will open and close the evening. Donations welcome.

The Family Grief Support Group with an expressive arts component is tentatively scheduled to begin mid-May. Please contact the Nelson office at 352-2337 for more information. Open to children ages 8-12 who have lost someone through death and their parents/guardians. Participation is limited. Snacks and supplies will be provided. There is no fee to attend. Parents/guardians must self refer to participate. No previous arts experience required.

Join us at the AGM for Nelson and District Hospice Society at 905 Gordon Rd. This is a great opportunity to meet the Board of Directors, and to share your thoughts and vision for Hospice in our communities. An Annual Report will be made available as well as presentations by the Board President and Executive Director highlighting the year's activities.

October

 

Hospice/Palliative Care in our community... please register with Selkirk College (Nelson campus) at 352-6601. There is a nominal course fee of $38.00.

 The Family Grief Support Group will begin October 15. Through expressive arts (music, art, movement, puppetry, etc) children will explore memories, feelings, fears, and transitions. A concurrent parent support group will be offered. Parents/guardians must self-register through Nelson Hospice at 352-2337.

December

 

The Annual "Tree of Remembrance" will take place in Nelson, Kaslo & the East Shore. Please stop by the tree and personalize a card to hang on the tree in memory of a loved one. Information about dealing with the holidays while grieving will also be available. Donations welcome. Exact dates and locations TBA.
